Nourish Retreat, 8 Limbs, & Queerly Beloved

Pure Being January 2022 Newsletter

Hello! This is Pure Being’s inaugural monthly newsletter I wanted to provide an introduction to our history, presence, and intention as a collective of healers. Pure Being began as a vision over a decade ago – a “download” from the bounty of the Universe, so to speak. As with most complex endeavors, Pure Being remained in germination stage long enough for the right people, the right place, and an investment in training to coalesce into actuality in late 2018/early 2019. Through an unimagined amount of generosity and support, the physical home for Pure Being was completed and scheduled to open on March, 16, 2020 – the day Governor Pritzker called for a state shut-down due to the Covid pandemic.

Along with the rest of the world, the Pure Being providers felt their way through a confusing and frustrating time – what a practice of patience and trust! Fortunately, the mission of Pure Being – to be a source of healing and growth to the Chambana and surrounding communities – is sustained energetically, not just physically, and we have found ways to offer services over these last two years. We are still feeling our way, along side you, in this every-changing process. If nothing else, our species is creative and adaptable and we continue to trust that the mission and practice of Pure Being remains valuable and timely.

We are here and very much want to connect with, support and guide you on your health and wellness journey. If you haven’t already, please take a leisurely stroll through the website. Feel free to reach out to any of the Pure Being providers to ask questions. If you’re really curious, ask one of us for a building tour and chat. And if you believe one or more of our services might be helpful to your healing and growth, we look forward to scheduling an appointment.

Thank you so much for your interest and support – in whatever form that may take.

To your health, growth and well-being!

Lisa Haake, Founder

Special Practice-Wide Retreat!

In order for anything to grow, it must be nourished. During this sacred time together, we will reflect on why this time of year calls us to draw inward and where nourishment might be most needed in our lives. We will feed our bodies, minds, and souls with things that comfort and sustain. Each attendee will receive a limpia/energy cleansing kit to take home and food will be provided (optional).

Activities will include: Yoga, Zendoodling, Hoop Dance, Self-Massage, Meditation & Breathwork, Mindfulness Exercises, Time in Nature, Spiritual Guidance, Gut-Brain Axis Mini-Workshop, as well as invitations for reflection/journal prompts and of course time spent in community with other like-minded/spirited individuals.

Additional Invitations

World of Prayer (Weekly, Free)

There are as many ways to pray as there are elements of life. Join Eileen Gebbie for free on Tuesdays from 11:30 to 12 p.m. Central via Zoom to experience a different form each week. No need to commit to each week. After you register here you will receive the permanent Zoom link and login credentials so you may "stop by" whenever schedule and spirit allow.

Are you exhausted from making conversation? Do you feel that you are never heard? In spiritual direction, participants engage in deep listening without the pressure of the kind of social dialogue that has become the norm. Each month Eileen Gebbie will lead an introductory group through the process of deep listening and spiritual direction so that you know what to expect and she can answer any questions. (She is also available for a free initial consultation for individual spiritual direction.)

Cost $25

Group limited to 6 participants.

Tuesday, March 29 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom

Queerly Beloved (Starting February 21)

Few institutions have sought to and achieved as much violence against the souls, bodies, and lives of queer people as Christianity.

In this four-part course, Eileen Gebbie (at left, with unicorn) and participants we will create a space to share experiences, unpack damaging and false constructions of God, explore how to be in relationship with the Hebrew Bible and Christian Testament as beloved of God, and find the holy salve (the root word of salvation) to mend wounds.

Monday, February 21 and 28, March 7 and 14 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Cost $100

Class is limited to 7 students. Masks required. Register here.

Introduction to the 8 Limbs of Yoga: A guide for living a meaningful and purposeful life (Starting March 1)

Are you curious about yoga but don’t want to buy into all the commercial hype? Or maybe you’ve been on the mat for a while and feel a calling to deeper understanding and practice? This 10-week series with Lisa Haake will provide both an introduction to yoga and an opportunity for a deeper understanding of its origins and purpose. Whatever your reason, exploring the comprehensive system of yoga will help you better understand yourself and how to live with more clarity, balance, meaning and purpose.

Each session will include a well-rounded practice of postures, breathing, focusing and meditation after a brief lecture and discussion highlighting one of the limbs. At the completion of the series, you’ll have a “big picture” understanding of the history, purpose and modern application of the vast science and practice of Yoga, and most importantly, a deeper connection with yourself.

Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 pm, beginning March 1

Cost is $125 for all 10 sessions or $15 per session.

Class is limited to 8 students. Suitable for beginners or seasoned practitioners. Register here.
